Here at HostDime, we feature managed service options on our complete product line of Linux OS Based servers (which are deployed with cPanel pre-installed as the control panel) and on our Microsoft Windows Server OS based servers (which are deployed with the Plesk control panel). But, we don't stop there. Although we specialize in Linux/cPanel Microsoft & Windows/Plesk servers, it is important to stress that we also offer a plethora of other managed services. Software

Control Panel

As a general rule, we support virtually every aspect included within the control panels we offer. We always try to incorporate 'best practice' in our workflow and in all areas we support. Although many custom configurations are available, if the control panel developer does not sanction the action, we will in most cases refrain from implementing the custom configuration. Of course we will always evaluate your suggestions and incorporate them whenever possible.

Below are some of the most common areas of control panel support:

WHM/cPanel assistance, including but not limited to:

  • Creating, deleting, setting up, cPanel accounts (bulk setup not included) and DNS entries
  • Creating, deleting, setting up, email accounts, DNS (MX) and other related domain records (bulk setup not included)
  • Kernel upgrades, OS patches
  • PHP updates (to control panel or OS supported versions only)
  • MySQL updates (to control panel or OS supported versions only)
  • WHM/cPanel updates
  • Software updates for packages maintained by our approved control panel vendors. (Third-party script updates fall outside of out normal scope of support)
  • Email troubleshooting
  • FTP troubleshooting

Cron Jobs

  • Assistance with the configuration of the cron job execution time, frequency and notification (email)
  • 'Best Effort' support will be provided for the actual commands run by the cron

LAMP Stack Support

  • PHP compilation, upgrades, installing extensions, custom directive configuration and support (control panel or OS supported versions only)
  • MySQL installation, configuration, optimization and recovery (control panel or OS supported versions only)
  • Database corruption assistance

WAMP Stack Support

Backups and Restoration

  • Backups contain your data and are considered content.
  • All content management falls under the responsibility of the client to maintain.
  • On our Dedicated Server configurations that incorporate a secondary/dedicated backup drive, we can configure a maintain backups for you.
  • We can also assist in configuring remote backup services (through the control panel of the server)
  • On all our hosting packages, (including the above-mentioned), backups that are stored on the server are only there to help expedite any potential data recovery.
  • Backups that are stored on the server should never be relied on alone for disaster recovery.
  • To increase the likelihood of successful data recovery and restoration, you should always take frequent backups, store the data in multiple, unique locations and retain several versions.
  • We are always happy to assist you in configuring your backups through the control panel of your hosting package.
  • We would also be happy to discuss outlining a custom disaster recovery solution to fit your needs.

PLEASE NOTE:

  • Backups are maintained on the server as a courtesy.
  • Backups maintained by us are never guaranteed.
  • Remember to always maintain off-server backups of your data.

Network

  • If it is found that your qualified hosting package was compromised as a result of altering or ignoring our security recommendations, recovery efforts will not be covered under our managed support and will be subject to our standard labor rates of $100.00 per hour.

Server Monitoring

What is Monitoring?

HostDime's Fully Managed hosting packages include our state-of-the-art monitoring and alerting services. These services consist of an in-house designed and built software application that monitors systems, networks and infrastructure combined with hands-on followup (when needed) from our datacenter and support technicians. When technicians are alerted by the system of a potential issue, they will analyze the reported information and take appropriate action as necessary.

How Do I Get Monitoring?

In order to be included in the monitoring schema, your server must run our monitoring and software configuration management tool agents with appropriate access at all times. All of our fully managed servers are initially deployed with our monitoring configuration in place.

Is Someone Always Watching My Server?

In order to maintain a low cost and highly efficient solution, monitoring is mostly automated. This means that staff does not monitor each server individually in real time. This would not be cost effective for our clients, nor would it be efficient in general so we leave that part of the job to the monitoring system. In addition, many studies have shown that humans are actually not very good at monitoring, we tend to miss more changes the longer we focus on one thing. On the other hand, we are excellent decision makers. With our system, we let the software do the monitoring and alert us when there is an issue so we can evaluate the options and make the best decision possible.

What if I have an important launch or event and want a technician to continuously monitor my server?

Unfortunately, these types of requests fall outside of our normal scope of managed support. Any request for continuous monitoring would require an administrative labor quote that would be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

All of the items outlined above should only be referred to as a general guide for our managed services. In actuality, it barely scratches the surface of our technical abilities and what we have to offer to our clients.


What is not covered:

Due to the highly dynamic nature of software, the installation and management of custom and/or third party vendor software (and scripts) falls outside the normal scope of our managed support services.

Why do we not support coding?

It really boils down to this; there is nearly an infinite number of programming languages in use throughout the world today and it would be nearly impossible to stay well versed in all of them. Trying to learn them all would be like trying to speak every language known to man fluently and flawlessly (which is not a reasonable expectation). We feel it is much more practical (and beneficial to our clients) to concentrate our focus on webhosting.

For example, Information technology technicians are much like general practitioner doctors, visiting a general MD for most things will be fine. An MD is highly trained and educated and can handle most health concerns with great confidence. But, If you are ever required to undergo open heart surgery, you would still probably want to consult a heart specialist (cardiologist) to ensure you would receive the highest level of care. The same could be said concerning information technology, generally, IT techs do well over a broad range of matters and can handle a wide range of issues. Although we can successfully address many issues, we specialize in hosting and would obviously be a better choice in that area. When it comes to software support and development, it is always recommended to consult with an experienced and accredited developer for your coding needs. Since we keep our focus on hosting, and have many years of tried and true experience, we can out perform others that may not have the knowledge required to properly manage your services or the foresight to maneuver the changing road ahead. Our team is highly dedicated to remain on the cutting edge of hosting technology. This pinpoint focus allows us to provide the highest level of hosting support imaginable and the drive to never stop exceeding your expectations. Part of this determination allows us to offer, as a courtesy, complimentary installation of most custom/third party software packages which have an approximate installation time of 30 minutes or less. (all software subject to prior review and approval by our team). Any software/script that is slated to take more then 30 minutes to install will require a custom installation quote prior to performing any work. The quote will explain exactly what we are going to do, how long it will likely take and what sort of ongoing support (if any) that you can expect. Once the labor quote is provided to you, you are then free to either reject the quote (at no cost to you) or accept the installation quote. If you decide to accept the quote, we will generate an invoice that must be paid in full before our team will proceed with the process. If you have any questions or concerns about this process, please feel free to contact us at anytime. As an example, we offer support for the installation of common CMS packages, content management frameworks and storefronts such as WordPress, Joomla and Magento, just to name a few. Installing most of these types of packages would be included in your managed support. Once installed, the management, support and upgrading of the package would be in the hands of you, the client.

Please Note: We do not install, manage or support any third party plugins that do not ship with an approved software installation. If the authoring developer did not integrate the plugin within the installation script of the package, we normally would not install nor maintain it. As with any issue you present to us, we will always attempt to provide 'best effort' support. This means we will always take a look into any issue you present and attempt to provide as much support and advice as possible. Unfortunately, when it comes to plugins, these are considered a matter of coding and fall outside our normal scope of managed support.

What about upgrades?

As your needs grow, we will be there for you. We gladly provide assistance with upgrading your server upon request. Our experienced staff will thoroughly review your existing package, factor your current and future requirements and provide several custom tailored options for you to choose from. We understand that each client may have different needs and we will always do our best to accommodate your needs whenever possible.
