EasyApache is the powerful tool built into WHM/cPanel used to update and configure your Apache web server. Last week, on May 20th, the EasyApache team published version 3.30.0 which now allows support for PHP 5.6.
Currently, only cPanel servers running CentOS 6 or higher have support for PHP 5.6. cPanel has marked this as “experimental”, because this is the first release and they want to make sure all the kinks have been worked out.
If you or your clients are interested in migrating from 5.5 to 5.6, check out these migration tips. A word of warning from the PHP manual:
“Most improvements in PHP 5.6.x have no impact on existing code. There are a few incompatibilities and new features that should be considered, and code should be tested before switching PHP versions in production environments.”
Lastly, you can now compile in Zend OpCache with PHP 5.5 and 5.6. Zend OpCache provides faster PHP execution through opcode caching and optimization. If you have an older PHP version, you will need to PECL install it.
