October 11 UPDATE: We’re pleased to report that HostDime remained fully operational throughout Hurricane Milton, with no downtime for our clients despite the loss of commercial power. Our backup systems performed exactly as designed, keeping everything online.
Our facility is now open again to colocation partners, and we anticipate no further storm-related issues. We sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding during this time, and we hope that anyone impacted by the storm remained safe and experienced minimal damage.
Looking ahead, HostDime’s upcoming Orlando data center will be a Category 5 hurricane-rated facility. While Orlando has never seen a Category 5 storm, we’re prepared—just in case.
October 8: Hurricane Milton is on track to make landfall in Orlando this Wednesday and Thursday, October 9th and 10th. At HostDime, we’ve been putting in the work to ensure we’re fully prepared for the heavy rains, high winds, and potential flooding this storm may bring.
Our team will be on-site and ready during the storm, and we’ve run rigorous checks on all emergency systems to guarantee uninterrupted service. This includes fueling up our tanks, testing backup power systems, securing external equipment, and stocking food and water for our dedicated staff who will be riding out the storm at the data center.
HostDime has weathered countless storms during our 20+ years in Orlando, and we’re seasoned in keeping everything running smoothly, no matter the conditions.
Important note: In-person colocation access will be temporarily suspended from 4:00 PM EDT on Wednesday, October 9th to 6:00 PM EDT on Thursday, October 10th. This timeframe could change depending on the storm’s path. To focus our resources, we may also temporarily disable phone support, shifting all efforts to tickets and live chats. If this happens, updates will be posted on our Facebook and Twitter. For tech support, submitting a ticket through CORE will be the fastest way to reach us. We’ll do our best to complete any new orders or modifications by end of day tomorrow; any requests after that will be addressed once the storm has passed.
If you require emergency access to the facility during the suspension, please submit a request via ticket in your CORE client area. Our management team will review each request on a case-by-case basis and provide details if approved. Please note, all non-emergency and unscheduled visits during this window will be denied.
Orlando Data Center: Built to Withstand the Storm
HostDime’s Orlando data center is engineered for Florida’s extreme weather. Our windowless, single-story facility is built with concrete masonry perimeter walls that can take on just about anything. We’ll remain fully staffed 24/7 to monitor and manage operations.
In the unlikely event of a complete power outage, our two diesel generators—totaling nearly 2MW—will kick in. These generators are stocked with 2,700 gallons of diesel in belly tanks, plus an external 5,000-gallon fuel reserve, ensuring we stay online no matter what.
We appreciate your understanding and patience during this weather event. Stay safe, and know that we’ve got your back through the storm!
