How to Configure Remote Backups in cPanel

HostDime offers in-house remote storage service as an add-on to any hosting account. This helps maximize redundancy and improve overall performance with your current server build. Mount your remote storage service as a drive on your VPS or Dedicated Server to push and pull data from your account. Access and manage your remote storage service including expandable disk quota, FTP, SFTP, SCP, NFS, CIFS, and RSYNC. 20 GB’s start at just $10 a month.

When you purchase your Remote Storage Service, choose which HostDime storage location around the globe you’d like to store your data in. HostDime has remote storage systems in our United States, United Kingdom, and Brazil facilities. Pick whichever is closest to your server, office, or home in order to get the best transfer speeds possible.

The following tutorial is based on the new cPanel version 11.38. System administrators who may not feel comfortable with this update can still use the 11.36 version of Backup Configuration, formerly known as Configure Backups, now called Legacy Backup Configuration.

This new system allows you to retain multiple daily copies, while the old version did not as the new backup overwrote the previous one. If you want to save multiple days but don’t think you have the space, the FTP backup service will definitely come in handy, especially for VPS clients.

Once you have received your FTP backup username and password, log into your WHM. Once you have logged in, type “backup” in the top left search bar. Select “Backup Configuration” from the list of options.

Now you can configure your backups based on your preference. Head to cPanel’s documentation page if you have any questions on configuration options. Click the images for a better look.

Near the bottom of the configuration page, you’ll see Remote FTP Host, FTP Backup User, and FTP Backup Password. Enter the log-ins provided by HostDime if purchased through us. Click the image for a better look.

Backups should then be stored on your FTP space after the next daily backup process. If you have any questions, please open a live chat or ticket. HostDime’s support team is available 24/7/365.
