The Rules of Social Engagement - FacebookIn February 2004, Facebook started off as a networking website for the collegiate set. With over 800 million active users, Facebook is now one of the largest websites on the planet. This isn’t just any site…it’s one where people share, laugh, shop and brag. It’s everyone connecting with their neighbors, their friends and even the random guy from high school.

Pandemonium, a word that describes wild confusion and sheer madness, is something that can typically be found on the day after Thanksgiving –Black Friday. Known for its remarkable deals, discounts and esteemed door busters, the date typically kicks off the Christmas shopping season, and can leave many career oriented individuals – businesspersons and corporate professionals alike – fighting for the latest in technology for the workplace. However, which is better when it comes to business…Black Friday or Cyber Monday? That may just be a tough question to answer.

The Rules of Social Engagement - TwitterIf the recent retraction of debit card fees by major banks has taught us anything, it’s that in the age of social media and internet communication, the customer is king. Years ago, businesses used to calculate that dissatisfied customers would tell 10 others about their experience, while satisfied customers would tell only three. With the power and reach of social networks such as Twitter, that number has skyrocketed on both sides. After these debit fees were enacted, a flurry of negative comments flooded Twitter. The hue and cry was so loud, banks backed off and rescinded the fee.

The Federal Government, for better or worse, has always played a major role in the United States economy. Recently, however, the government has taken some major steps to try and regulate the Internet and monitor its users. These steps have come in the form of two separate Acts that are still currently in Congress. Is this type of regulation a good or bad thing? There are sure to be proponents on both sides of the argument, but many seem to think this type of legislation will have serious negative consequences.

Over the years, corporations and conglomerates have been graced with the latest technological advancements in telephones, email, and instant messaging, but two fairly recent developments have helped revolutionize the way some businesses interconnect. Skype and ooVoo, software applications specializing in video conferencing and messaging, have helped modernize and reform the way some business meetings are being held. More and more individuals are utilizing the software as a means of effective communication.

However, which one is the most superlative? Which one is more ideal for your business?

It has often been said that good things come to those who wait. With the rate in which technology constantly evolves, that maxim could very well be factual. During recent years, we have witnessed a slew of revolutionizing inventions. Now it seems something new is on the horizon.

Rumors have now surfaced regarding Microsoft partnering with Verizon and Comcast to create something spectacular. It turns out that Microsoft’s esteemed Xbox Live could very well be replacing cable boxes in the homes of dedicated video-gamers. This isn’t to say that they will be competing against cable providers. Instead, it seems the company is simply trying to use their gaming system as a cable distributing device of sorts.

It has often been said that the more things change, the more they stay the same. As cherished as that aphorism may be, one could argue that it’s rather impractical when it comes to the world of technology. You see, the thing about gizmos and gadgets is that they are constantly changing, always evolving – and rarely ever remaining the same. Cellular devices become outdated. Video games are superseded. And computers can become obsolete. Case in point – the latest techno war debated by businessmen and nerds alike seems to center on the fact that tablets could replace laptops.
