Workshop at the University of Central Florida on Websites

UCF Online Presence Workshop

On Wednesday, April 13th, 2011 HostDime presented a workshop at the University of Central Florida (UCF). There were about twenty students in attendance. The workshop covered the importance of establishing an online presence and how the students in a specific major might do so. We also gave the students a free small web hosting account and a domain name.

We started the discussion by giving the students a little background into what web hosting is and how it works. We also discussed the advantage they gain over others when looking for possible job opportunities because they are able to showcase their abilities to create a website and showcase their complete resume and portfolio. The students also received a brief overview of some of the tools provided to them through cPanel to help them manage and design their website.

All of the students were really happy and thankful for their new website and domain name and asked a lot of great questions. The workshop went really well, and we are all really excited for the next one!

We would like to thank the UCF Office of Experiential Learning for allowing us to put on the workshop and to use their facilities. We would also like to give a special thanks to Sandra M. and Jackie H., advisors for the Office of Experiential Learning, for all the help that they gave us on setting up the workshop and getting the word out about it.
