Emerging Web Hosting Markets for New Developers

Emerging web hosting markets for new developers

Web hosting is essential for any website to run and most people seem to know this. The closer the server is to the customer then the faster the website download speed is going to be. With the global trend leaning towards worldwide internet dominance, web hosting companies may be required to have locations across the globe in order to grow. Some markets may be small but untapped, or some markets may be large but inaccessible. This makes for a tough decision on which markets to capture.

To that end, HostDime has singled out two emerging markets based on the future growth of internet access and internet economy.

Nigeria:

It may come as a surprise for you that Nigeria’s population is more than half of the United States. Considering Nigeria is only one tenth the size of the United States, you may be able to understand the impact of the internet for the local economy.

Currently, the country’s internet access is at a mere 11 percent, but according to Reuters, that number is expected to more than triple within two years. Ideally, it is possible to have a market penetration of 35-40 percent within the next two years according to Main One Cable Company of Nigeria. With so many people gaining access to the internet, that could only mean a greater internet economy and more web hosting needs.

Local businesses will be able to communicate with their customers at a faster pace and with more efficiency; breaking the mold of old business practices. With only 42 web hosting companies in the whole entire country, it may be hard to satisfy the new influx of business.

As you can see, Nigeria is the new land of opportunity for web hosting companies. With a very large population and growing internet access, the possibilities are endless.

India:

With a population of 1.2 billion, it is no surprise that India is considered an emerging market for web hosting. Already taking advantage of this opportunity, HostDime opened an office there in 2009 with a datacenter located in New Delhi. Services offered include colocation, dedicated servers, shared hosting and VPS.

Although the current population with access to the internet is only 10 percent, the room to grow is immense. According to The Times of India, India’s internet economy is expected to reach 10.6 trillion RS ($192 billion) by 2016. That is a large jump considering that in 2010, the internet only contributed 3.2 trillion RS ($57 billion). The current trend is up-up-up for India’s internet economy, and web hosting will have to keep up with the demand.

Since India is three times smaller than the United States, the competition for web space will be fierce, and web hosting companies will need great competitive advantages to win and keep customers.

At an internet economy growth rate of 23 percent per year, India is starting to become an internet powerhouse. Luckily for us, they are still in their beginning stages, so there is great opportunity for investment in the internet.

The Future:

Considering internet availability in the United Sates is at 94 percent, we don’t often think about areas of the world that aren’t as fortunate as us. Every day, we, at HostDime, wake up and check emails, social media, and news without blinking an eye. Other parts of the world do not have this luxury, and they may have never imagined it.

With the internet storming the world, developing countries will start to see how it will affect their economies. Within the next few years, we will see a large hike in the population’s access to the internet, making for an interesting addition to the world economy. Nigeria and India alike are both poised to triple their internet access before 2016. We have to ask ourselves how this will affect our economy, and the economy of their respective countries.

Will this affect you?

    1. Thanks for the comment mouse. As of right now, Thailand is not on the radar as a web hosting prospect, but we will definitely keep them in mind for the future.
